New Teacher – Jan Stair

Jan Stair is the new study hall teacher this year. This is a little different for the Bethany students because, there has never been a teacher who only monitors our study halls.

Some of Jan’s hobbies are reading (especially mysteries), ballroom dancing, going on walks, and being with friends and family. Her immediate family includes two sons, two stepsons and her husband.  Her husband is her best friend and one of their favorite activities is watching movies together in the evening.

Being a study hall teacher at a high school is new for Jan. In the past she has only taught at elementary schools. For 27 years total she has taught and subbed at Middlebury schools. She taught at Jefferson Elementary School specifically for 24 years so she does have a lot of experience in teaching

Jan chose to come to Bethany because she happened to see the job opening and thought it looked interesting. She also found the idea of not having to get up early every morning, very pleasing.

When I asked her what she likes the most about Bethany, Jan stated, “I love how all the kids are nice and friendly and I am so impressed with how much the faculty cares about each other and all of the kids.” She also remarked that the aspect she misses the most from teaching elementary school has to be the “little kids, huge smiles and funny stories.”
