Spring Sports Preview

The spring season is approaching, and with it begins a new chapter of high school spring sports.

-SOFTBALL-  There are 9 girls planning to join the team this year. This season, softball is also welcoming a new coach, Troy Barber. Bailey Hanton (‘18) said she is “both curious and excited to have a new coach this year.” The girls are expecting to begin this season strong, by working on their fundamental skills. Last year the Bruins ended the season with a record of 7-11.

-TRACK- Running star, Hannah Yeakey (‘17), is starting her track season with two goals. She said “I want to have 5:15 on the mile and 11:20 on two.” The track team will be coached by Benji Hurst this year. Many of the athletes are not looking forward to running on an indoor track when the weather is gloomy, but the weather seems to be improving as spring nears. Jonah Hochstetler (‘18) says “Track is a good way to get to know people because you see everyone when they are happy, and then when they are tired and don’t want to talk to anyone after the workout.”

-BASEBALL- Bethany’s baseball team is coached by Brent Reinhardt. This year, Bethany will be hosting sectionals. This will be the first time that Bethany has hosted baseball sectionals in 20 years. Senior, Martin Gerig (‘16), is excited to join the team this year. He says he is looking forward to “getting to know some of the freshman and sophomore guys.”

-GIRL’S TENNIS- The tennis team welcomed a new coach last year, Tara Swartzendruber-Landis. Along with a new coach, there were many girls that joined the tennis team with no previous experience, many of them will be returning. Brooke Weaver (‘17) says that she is “excited to see the beginners from last year come back this year, step up, and win more this year.”

-GOLF- This year there are 9 guys planning to join the golf team. This is the biggest team BCHS team has seen in years. Golf also has a new coach this year, Jonathan Shenk. Zane Zmudzinski (’17) says “I am looking forward to playing golf with a large group this year.” Hopefully, the team will have a lot more outdoor practice with nicer weather out this year.
