ISSMA Soloists

A few weeks ago, seven students from Bethany participated in the ISSMA state contests for both vocal and instrumental solos. These individuals also exhibited their musical talents later for the student body during a chapel in which they all performed their pieces.

Senior, Paul Krabill, received a silver rating on his vocal solo, Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind by Roger Quilter which he performed at the Indiana State School Music Association state contest held at Perry Meridian High School on Saturday, February 20, 2016.

The following band students performed at the Indiana State School Music Association instrumental state contest held at North Central High School on Saturday, February 27, 2016:

  • Senior, Isabel Rondo, received a gold rating on her flute solo, Sonata in F major by Georg Phillip Telemann.

  • Freshman, Rachel Leininger, received a gold rating on her flute solo, Sonata in A minor no. 7 by George Frideric Handel.

  • Junior, Jackson King, received a gold rating on his bassoon solo, Hungarian Fantasie, Op. 35 by Carl Maria von Weber.

  • Juniors, Lane Miller and Brandon Nguyen, and sophomore, Dustin Miller, received a silver rating on their saxophone trio, Peasant Dance by Leroy Ostransky.

“I am very proud of all these students,” Says Sherry Good, Bethany’s band director. “Most of these students began working on these pieces in mid to late October and have spent many hours preparing these pieces.  All these students received gold ratings at the district contest which then qualified them for participation at the state level.  In the three years that I have taught at Bethany, this is the largest group of state participants.”

We look forward to hearing more wonderful things from these students in the future. Keep up the good work and congratulations on your accomplishments.
