Staff Bio- Skylar Yoder

Hello all. My name is Skylar Yoder, since I had a recent last name change, some of you may recognize the name Skylar Lazarre more. I am a junior this year, and am looking forward to being involved in Social Media here at Bethany.  To start out this little introduction, I have many obsessions, one of them being musical theatre. I have been involved in numerous acting classes and shows since the age of six, and I started taking voice lessons in 2011 through a worship workshop in my youth group. My favorite musical is either Phantom of the Opera or Cats, which were both composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber

I am a speedScreen Shot 2016-08-26 at 4.58.09 PM reader. I can get through a five hundred page book in about two hours if I sit down and am not disturbed or distracted.Often my family doesn’t believe that I can read so fast and still know what is going on in the book. I often surprise them by recollecting details, or by giving them a detailed synopsis of the book I read. Even still, they sometimes doubt my power.

On top of being obsessed with books and musicals, I am also a major comic book fan. I used to like Marvel comics more, but over the years I have grown fond of DC and their comic book elements. My favorite hero is Gambit from Marvel’s X-Men and my favorite villain will always be the Joker from DC’s Batman comics.

I like to traScreen Shot 2016-08-24 at 6.29.58 AMvel, and I usually do so without my family. I have flown to Texas numerous times on my own to visit my best friend, and I sometimes go with her to Canada. We have been to Quebec City and Montreal in the province of Quebec, and we drove up to Edmonton in Alberta to see the broadway show Wicked. I have also flown to visit another friend of mine who lives in Alaska. This past summer I went to Costa Rica with my youth group, so I also got to experience traveling with others. All of those trips were very exciting, and I learned that enjoy flying by myself more than with others.

I am a writer, and my favorite thing to write is poetry. I absolutely love being assigned to write poems in class. I take great pride in my work. I’ve enjoyed writing poetry for about three years, and I also enjoy studying it in literature class in school.
