Staff Bio- Fiona Yeakey

Hi! My name is Fiona Yeakey, and I’m a sophomore. This is my first year on Sightline. This article is just a few facts about me. See if you can find the one that isn’t true!

One of my favorite parts of any trip is usually the car ride there and back. I really like just chilling in the backseat (especially with the whole seat to myself) and listening to music, reading, or napping for hours on end. This may change once I start driving and don’t get to do this as often.

My dad really likes Bruce Springsteen, and because of this, my whole family went to a rock and roll type concert at a venue called the Stone Pony in New Jersey. We didn’t go to see anyone in particular play; we just went because it was the place where Bruce Springsteen got his start.

imagesMy favorite season is winter. I can tolerate summer, but overall, winter is better. Christmas break is in winter, for example. Also, running in the snow, especially when it’s snowing, is awesome. Snow in generally is really cool (haha get it? It’s cool because snow is frozen). And the biggest reason I like winter: if you’re cold, you can put on a sweater. If you’re warm in summer, you have to find air conditioning or just suffer. It’s the worst.

My favorite book is Pride And Prejudice by Jane Austen. I first read it when I was twelve, and then I saw the movie (one of the versions), and ever since then it’s been my favorite book. It was probably the first real classic that I read. My favorite character is Mrs. Bennet, because she’s so self-absorbed and says silly things.

My favorite subject is Spanish. I like learning other languages, and I remember words pretty easily. Writing and talking in Spanish is fun, even though I have to think a lot harder about what I’m saying and if I’m saying it right at this point. Learning about the cultures is really fun too, especially when Nina has us listen to musicians from the countries we learn about.
