What Do We Do? A poem by Braydon Harshberger

What Do We Do?

What do we do when we are staring into the face of evil? Do we stand strong?

Do we stand up against the forces trying to hold us back?

Do we continue to say that nothing is wrong?

Do we fight back with violence? Do we fight with our words and continue to be attacked?

What do we do when our rights are being taken from us? Do we stand idly by?

What do we say to our kids when they ask about the times we grew up in? Do we lie?

What do we want our legacy to be? Do we want to say, “i wish i could have done more?”

What do we think is going to happen if we defer? Do we believe this will go away if we ignore?

Do we use our voice to speak out against injustice or stand idly by and watch the world burn?

Do we think that being silent is going to solve anything? Silence is just fuel for the fire.

Do we want to be remembered as the ones who sat and watched? Or do we fight and spurn?

We can’t turn a blind eye to people in need, we can’t turn away when the situation is so dire.

This is all I ask of you, heed my words, fight for what you believe in.

Don’t back down, keep persevering, never let them win.

United we stand, divided we fall, so stand and fight the good fight.

The end isn’t near, so stand, stand and fight for what is right.
