Movie Review: Home

In the new DreamWorks movie, Home, a new species comes to Earth while trying to escape its predator, the Gorg. The Boovs’ philosophy is to always flee and take cover. If anything scary comes along, “Run!”

HomeWhen the Boov discovered Earth and decided that they wanted to make it their home, they had to ‘relocate’ it’s inhabitants. All of the humans were relocated to colonies, butone of the humans didn’t quite make it.

Teenager Gratuity Tucci or Tip (voiced by Rihanna) is left behind while the Boov are relocating the humans. She and her cat, Pig, hide out until her building is inhabited by the Boov. She sets up a distraction for the Boov that come into her apartment and during the distraction, she escapes and drives off.

At the same time the Boov named Oh (voiced by Jim Parsons) is making all of the wrong choices. All Oh want’s to do is make friends and have a party! However while trying to send out an invite he sends it to the entire universe rather than just his ‘friend.’ “Why for put send button next to send all?” Oh askes.

This invitation is sent to everyone including the Gorg and now Oh is a fugitive Boov. As the movie goes on, Oh and Tip meet and through a series of events become quite good friends. Oh learns that being cowardly is not always the right answer and in the end, saves everyone.

Though some find the dialogue of the Boov to be slightly annoying and the plot is much the same as many movies; something goes wrong, a ‘team’ has to save them, and in the end the most unlikely character saves everyone. While slightly cliche, the movie overall is cute, funny, and definitely worth watching.
