Who Is Kamala Harris? Everything You Need To Know About The Vice President-Elect

As I am sure most of you reading this know, the Vice President-Elect is Kamala Harris. She has made history as not only the first women to be in office but also the first women of color and minority.

Kamala Harris’ parents were both immigrants, her mother from India, and her father from Jamaica. Before becoming the Vice President-Elect, Harris lived in California and was the first African American woman to be elected district attorney for San Francisco. She also served as attorney general and became the first African American and Asian American to serve as California’s attorney general. Kamala Harris also served in the Senate, and will now be the first woman and person of color to serve as vice president.

When talking about race, Harris said that she and Biden want to work with communities of color to make sure that they are getting the economic and educational investments they need to make themselves a healthier, and safer community.

Addressing police violence, Harris, along with Biden, both said that they will implement an end to no-knock warrants, chokeholds, and carotid holds. They have both also said that they want to also implement a nationwide excessive force standard and a database for all the officers that use excessive force and constantly break the rules. They are both also in agreement that cash bails and private prisons need to also be brought to an end.

Regarding gun rights, Kamala Harris wants to make a near-universal background check for people who sell over 5 guns a year. She also wants to implement a ban on the selling of assault weapons and a way to end the “boyfriend loophole.” The “boyfriend loophole” is a term that refers to the gap in the legislation regarding gun ownership, and is about the fact that if you are just the boyfriend of someone, you can still own a gun. However, if you are married to have a child with or live with the victim of abuse who has filed a restraining order against you, you are prohibited from owning a gun.

Kamala Harris stands with Biden when it comes to health care, and she believes that we as a nation need to work on providing healthcare to those who are looking for it and to also lower the price of health care in general.

When talking about reproductive rights and abortion, Kamala Harris is a firm believer that reproductive rights and abortion rights are needed. She has said that she does not approve of Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett because she believes that Judge Barrett could reverse Roe. vs. Wade. This would make it so that women have less of a choice as to what happens with their bodies.

All in all Kamala Harris is a major activist for America and making this nation a better, safer place. She is also very passionate about women’s rights and making sure that the minorities in this nation are shown the respect they deserve. With all of this information, I hope this gives you a better understanding of what Kamala Harris stands for and what the next 4 years in our nation will look like with her in the office alongside President Joe Biden.
