Midseason Sport review

Fall sports are well underway and some are nearing the end of their season. The leaves are starting to change colors and day by day the new athletic complex looks to be coming together quite well.

All of our fall sports teams have had to juggle different COVID-19 regulations and preventative measures to best combat the increasing number of cases in the county. Unfortunately, Covid hit the volleyball team the hardest. For much of the season the team has seen players as well as coaches needing to Quarantine as a result of Covid as well as the seasonal flu being passed around. Because of this misfortune, the volleyball girls cherish the time they do have with each other. Ivonne Ortiz, senior, is excited that the group has “found a good team dynamic” and looks forward to competing against difficult teams in Sectional.

Boys tennis is officially at its end after losing to a tough Goshen team in Sectionals last evening. Despite losing, the tennis team had a great season with many memorable moments. #1 Singles player, Cameron Heinish’s favorite moment this season was “when we swept Northwood.” Cam’s comeback from being down 0-5 in the first set of this match to winning 10 consecutive games and eventually taking a win along with his teammates will go down in history. Cam likes to fellowship with the team after close matches, whether it was a team win or not. There is something truly special about eating Subway and singing “Sarasponda” together.

Katie Sauder, a Senior and captain on the girls’ soccer team loves talking to and catching up with her team during practice warm-ups. Katie expresses strong leadership, helping construct team chemistry between a group of girls who come from many different ability and experience levels. Katie says that she is “very impressed” at how far the team has come since the beginning of the season. “I see a lot of fight in us,” she proudly reports.
