Seniors on women’s basketball team reflect after great season

The game was close, the student section was loud, and the Bruins couldn’t be stopped by the Minutemen. Last Thursday, the Bruins women’s basketball team hosted the Concord Minutemen in a fierce senior night competition. Mackenzie Mast and Ivonne Ortiz both played amazing games and eventually claimed victory over the Minutemen 47 to 34.

Senior night was a stellar performance by the Bruins. The Minutemen took the lead in the first quarter, but the Bruins rebounded in the second quarter and led the game from then on. Zoe Willems scored 22 points for the Bruins, followed by Mariah Stoltzfus scoring 12 points. The student section was a force to be reckoned with during that game. Austin Shenk, the team’s statistician, noted that the night was already special, and the student section’s energy added to the atmosphere. Even players on the court took note; “The fan support was outstanding” said Mackenzie, “it was a really fun, close game to play too.”

With the end of the basketball season, the team retires three amazing seniors: Mackenzie Mast, Ivonne Ortiz, and Austin Shenk. All three seniors agreed that this year’s season was great. Mackenzie Mast said that this year’s season was super fun and enjoyable, and she loved to hang out with her teammates. The Bruins have a regular season record of 11-11 and a 3-2 record in the Hoosier Plains Conference. On Tuesday’s sectional game, the Bruins lost to Fremont in a close game.

Congratulations to the Bruins on their great season. Thank you seniors for your contributions to the team and the hard work you put into basketball, both on and off the court.
